This is a final reminder that we will be hosting our first meet of the meltdown season this weekend. There will be no practices this weekend. I encourage everyone to visit the volunteer pages on the ICE website to double check their assignments. Since we host three meets over the summer, it is sometimes easy to confuse them. Please look at both the assignment and the beginning time as both are listed on the page. Visit the ICE homepage and click on the link called Volunteer Home. From here you can see the volunteer positions for all of our long course meets. Follow this link to jump right to the Meltdown volunteer page
On the Meltdown page you will also see that we have need for donations to the concession stand as well. There are still a few needs for the concession stand.
In addition, you can see the openings that we currently have for officials. I STRONGLY encourage parents to become stroke and judge officials. The training is minimal and after four sessions of apprenticeship, you will be able to fulfill a key role at meets. As our team looks to host more and bigger meets as a way to keep practice fees down, we are going to need more qualified officials. You do not have to be a swimmer to officiate. Please contact Matthew Yao for more information. Our team needs to train at least a dozen more officials before next year.
For beginning times and warmup information for the meltdown, you can click here.
Meltdown: All ICE swimmers who are competing at the Meltdown meet on Sunday. Warm-ups will be at 7:00 am on Sunday. We will be warming up early so we will have more room to warm-up rather than warming up with 271 swimmers.
Swim-a-thon. Congratulations to all of the swimmers for completing last Saturday's swim-a-thon. Now is the time for swimmers to get all those last minutes pledges. The swim-a-thon pledge forms and money are due back to the ICE office by Saturday, May 3. Simply write down the number of laps you swam, complete the pledge information and place it in the lockbox at Mercer. All checks can be made out to Iowa City Eels. Receipts for each pledge will be placed in your child's folder. Finally, thanks to all of the parents who volunteered their time to count, laps and bring food. I don't think any swimmers came away from swim-a-thon hungry. Way to go!
Spring Meltdown this weekend: The biggest news for this weekend is that we will be holding our annual senior meet, the Spring Meltdown. If you signed up to help, please make sure that you are at your work station and ready to work at the appointed time. If you signed up a while ago, check out this link to see what your duties are.
While you are at it, also check out all of the volunteer pages on our website. They look great and contains tons of great information, including the list of donations that we need to run our concession stand.
Please remember that meets are one of most important sources of income for our team. All families are required to make a small food donation. Click here to see what is still needed for this weekend.
Updated Team Records: We are in the process of updating all of the team records to the website and to a different format. Follow the Team Records link on the home page to see all of the ICE records.
